RATING KEY -. Ride ratings are listed after the ride name. [A2-30]

Letters: A=Easiest… E=Most Difficult    

First Number: Terrain Rating  

Terrain rating 1-5 rates the total hilliness of the ride.

1= FLAT – easiest        

2= GENTLY ROLLING HILLS–moderate terrain with easiest of hills (Almost anyone can handle).

3= SOME HILLS – Moderate hills with some steeper grades (Moderately Challenging–but within the ability of most riders).

4= HILLY – The number and difficulty of hills is quite substantial (Very Challenging).

5= EXTREMELY HILLY – (Extreme Challenge – steep and long hills most of the ride–Requires a very high fitness level).

Second Number: Total Mileage for ride

 

Please note the Club policy on protective headgear: ALL Riders must wear Snell/ANSI rated helmets. Ride Host/Hostess will NOT give cue sheets to riders without helmets and that rider will not be considered an official participant of the Club ride. Please have your bike in proper working order BEFORE the start of ride. Arrive 10-15 minutes before start time so that all rides leave on time. Make sure you have a spare tube or patch kit and at least one water bottle.

If weather conditions are questionable, the ride host may notify club members by posting a message on Topica prior to the ride or make a decision at the starting location based on road conditions and weather forecasted at the time of the ride.

Paced Group Rides

 

Once again this year we would like to offer a Paced Group Ride option for the featured club rides. We will be doing things the same as last year. There were many times at the start of a ride, that once someone mentioned that they would be doing the ride at a paced ride speed most of others decided to join in the group for that particular ride. The following is to remind everyone of the idea of a Paced Ride Group.

 

Each weekend during the months of June thru Sept. there will be a Paced Group Option noted. What this will mean is, the people who choose to join the paced group will ride the same route as the featured ride, but as a group and at a pace of 13-15 mph. The paced group will also stop to re-group at the scheduled rest stops or if the group gets separated at intersections and on longer climbs.

 

In order to make the Paced Group a reality, we need some club members to volunteer to be the paced ride group leaders. The leaders would be someone other than the ride host of that day. Their responsibilities would be to make an announcement before the ride starts that would identify themselves and ask the people who will be doing the paced ride to wait 2-3 minutes until in the main group has left the starting location. During the paced ride the leader doesn’t necessarily need to be the lead rider of the group but more importantly they should have an idea of who is with the group.  They will also need to be mindful of the speed of the group.

 

If you are willing to be named a leader of an upcoming paced ride please contact me and I will included you in the ride schedule as per your requested ride. Even without a named leader. I hope to still have the paced group on all the featured rides. So if you want to do the paced ride please let the ride host know when you sign in for the ride. July 5 Mon. 9:00 AM  Independence Day Hill Climb Ride [E5-21]. This is a KOM ride. This is the same ride as the New Year’s Day ride only starting at the top of the hill. Come out and check your in-season fitness compared to the winter time. Starting from Brecknock Elementary School Rt. on 568 just off Rt. 625 in Knauers.  Today's Ride host is Kent S.

July 17 Sat. 9:00 AM Trail Ride Ride the Thun Trail to Montgomery County & Pottstown's riverfront park, and enjoy our local trail. Ride distance is 35 miles. The ride starts at the Brentwood trailhead along Rt. 10. There will be an option to stop at the Rita's in Birdsboro on the return trip. Hosts are Laurie and Rusty Riley 610-678-4672.

July 24 Sat. 8:00 AM MATT’S MONTHY ADVENTURE [E3-92]. This is a KOM ride. This month’s ride will take us thru southeastern Lancaster County. From the start in Adamstown we travel around the east and south sides of Lancaster to Conestoga where we make the turn south towards Quarryville. With plenty of rolling hills to work with. From Quarryville the ride heads east to Atglen and the start of two steady climbs to get us back to Blue Ball for a flat finish without going back up to a Brecknock start. Expect to have a cool beverage at the brewery at the end of the ride. This ride will start in the parking lot of Stoudt’s Brewery Rt. 272 Adamstown.  Park in the stones near the clock tower. Aug 21 Sat 9:00 AM  Trail Ride - Perkiomen Rail-Trail

Meet at 9:00am in the Lower Perkiomen Valley Park. Rt. 422 East to the Oaks exit, turn R off the exit ramp, 2nd light turn R into the park. Trail length is 18 miles one way from Oaks to Green Lane Park. Surface is cinder, packed gravel, and some asphalt. The trail passes through a varied landscape- urban, suburban, and rural. An ice-cream/food stop is located 10 miles into the ride. We plan to stop there on the return trip. Aug. 21 Sat. 8:00 AM MATT’S ADVENTURE RIDE NT33 BERKS/LEHIGH/NORTHAMPTON CENTURY

[E5-108]. This month’s ride will take us to the counties north of Berks in search of cooler temperatures. We will

travel from the North Temple start through Winsor Castle to the base of the Blue Mtns. We then travel along the

base of the Mts. to the Lehigh River in the Slatington area. We return via Hobbins Valley/Kistler Valley Rd to

Kempton. Then return to Berks County using the entire length of Long Lane into the Topton area. From Topton

we make our way thru Fleetwood back to the start.  This ride is designed to challenge the most experienced

rides in the club. Some of the roads to be traveled will have higher than usual traffic. Starting from N. Reading

Plaza (Walmart) Rt. 222 in Temple. Parking in lot behind the McDonald’s. The ride host is Matt F. Contact me

Aug. 22 Sun. 9:00 AM BR19 TERRE HILL LOOP [D3-41]. Ride and Rinse Club member Butch Ulrich has invited club members and their spouses to an after ride swim/ volleyball/ picnic at his house. Bring your favorite post ride snack and/or beverage to share poolside. Participation in today’s ride is not necessary to join in the pool fun. If you don’t do the ride, the picnic will start at 1pm. His address is 377 Church Rd. Mohnton – a ¼ mile toward Mohnton, from the Cumru Twp Building. Ride starting from Brecknock Elementary School Rt. on 568 just off Rt. 625 in Knauers.  Ride host is Matt F.
